The modern world we live in is fast-paced. Time is ephemeral. It is never enough. With juggling a 9-5, family, errands, and a plethora of other “to do”s, finding time to squeeze in a workout has become difficult. Are you struggling to lose weight? Are you having a hard time shedding those extra pounds? Is it just too hectic for you to have a lifestyle where you can squeeze in a workout? The weight loss industry is vast, and there is so much information available online. There are many paths to get to the same destination. Some methods work, while others may not be as effective. Each body is different and has a unique physiology. EMSCULPT is a new treatment, relatively new to the market that could be the right fit for you. Below we take a look at the question: What is EMSCULPT?
What is EMSCULPT?
EMSCULPT® is an FDA approved, non-invasive treatment designed to build and strengthen your abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and arms. A 30-minute EMSCULPT treatment is equal to 20,000 sit-ups or squats. It is also the only non-invasive buttock lifting procedure that helps to tighten and tone the stomach. When you go through the EMSCULPT® procedure, it feels like an intensive workout. You can lay down and relax during the treatment. It requires no recovery time or any pre/post-treatment preparation.
How does the procedure work?
The procedure itself is pretty simple. EMSCULPT uses high-intensity electromagnetic energy (HIFEM). Electromagnetic pulses get delivered to your muscle tissue, which creates supramaximal muscle contractions. In one 30-minute session, you get the equivalent of 20,000 muscle contractions. Contracting repeatedly without rest causes the muscles to undergo stress. The contractions trigger rapid changes at the cellular level that make them grow bigger and stronger.
One of the significant aspects of EMSCULPT is that it is nonsurgical and doesn’t require anesthesia. There’s no downtime afterward. EMSCULPT primarily tones muscles. It works well for those who don’t carry a lot of excess fat but want a more defined and sculpted physique. Furthermore, it is a fat-reduction option for people who cannot undergo liposuction and nonsurgical body-contouring treatments because they don’t have enough body fat.
What happens during an EMSCULPT treatment?
When the treatment starts, you will first lie on the doctor’s table, and the paddle-like applicator is strapped onto the targeted treatment area. It then begins sending high-intensity electromagnetic energy to the target muscles. The feeling is that of an intense workout, and there will be no pain. The contractions will go through different phases, some light while others are rapid. Some will be slower and more powerful. The machine will contract your muscles hundreds or thousands of times in just a few seconds. During the last phase of treatment, the muscle contractions will be slower but still powerful. These final contractions will flush out toxins or lactic acid released during the procedure and help reduce soreness.
How are the results of EMSCULPT?
More fit individuals may see improvements after just one EMSCULPT session. After four sessions, candidates should see a reduction in fat in the treated areas and increase muscle tone. Final results may take more time, especially in the areas that have more fat. Clinical studies conducted by EMSCULPT’s manufacturer, BTL, show that the waist size reduces, and an increase in muscle mass occurs. One benefit of EMSCULPT is that it keeps working after you complete your last session. Your muscles will continue to grow, and your fat will shrink in the six months after you have the procedure.
The muscle gained retains from the treatment with maintenance treatments and exercise. It is vital to be aware that it is not a quick fix. Follow up sessions every six months, and regular exercise will help maintain the results.
The procedure is relatively new, and there are no reported side effects. In 2016, the FDA cleared the procedure. Most of the studies haven’t followed participants for a period of longer than six months. Currently, there is not enough information regarding the long term effects.
Therefore, if you are looking to shed some pounds or feel like you have hit a wall in your weight loss journey, the EMSCULPT system could be the best system for you.
